The Foundation of Honesty

Why We Gather to Pray Today (இன்று நாம் ஏன் ஜெபிக்கக் கூடுகிறோம்)

On this first Saturday of the month we came together to fast and pray. But this gathering carried a particular weight, because it was the foundation day for the four Sundays ahead, when we will walk the road அறிக்கை முதல் சாட்சி வரை - from confession to testimony. Before we can stand and tell others what God has done, we have to learn to stop hiding. That work begins on our knees.

David tells us what hiding does to a person:

"When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long." - Psalm 32:3 (NKJV)

The thing he kept covered did not stay quiet inside him. It dried out his bones. The covering itself became the sickness. So today we decided we would not keep silent. We would speak three times in prayer: for ourselves, for our church, and for our people. Honesty is the foundation, and everything in the series to come is built on it.

1. Honest Before God (நமக்காக)

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." - Psalm 139:23-24 (NKJV)

"தேவனே, என்னை ஆராய்ந்து, என் இருதயத்தை அறிந்துகொள்ளும்; என்னைச் சோதித்து, என் சிந்தனைகளை அறிந்துகொள்ளும். வேதனை உண்டாக்கும் வழி என்னிடத்தில் உண்டோ என்று பார்த்து, நித்திய வழியிலே என்னை நடத்தும்." - சங்கீதம் 139:23-24 (TAOVBSI)

Notice David does not say, "God, I will keep my heart hidden from You." He says the opposite: search me. He throws the doors open and invites God to look all the way inside. He does this because he has understood something we are slow to learn: hiding from God accomplishes nothing.

God already knows. What we will not say aloud is not news to Him. And here is the part that makes confession safe rather than frightening: knowing everything, He still loves us. He is not waiting at the door of our hearts to catch us out. He is waiting to heal us. That is why the safest place in all the world to be honest is before God. So our first prayer was the simplest and the most private: each person, eyes closed, telling God one thing never said aloud to Him before. No one else needed to hear it. Only Him.

2. A Church That Carries Burdens, Not Tales (நம் சபைக்காக)

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." - Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)

"ஒருவர் பாரத்தை ஒருவர் சுமந்து, இப்படியே கிறிஸ்துவினுடைய பிரமாணத்தை நிறைவேற்றுங்கள்." - கலாத்தியர் 6:2 (TAOVBSI)

A church is meant to be the one place on earth where a burden is safe - a place where loads are carried, not spread around. When a brother finally finds the courage to say, "this is what I am struggling with," he is handing us something fragile. What we do with it decides whether anyone will ever trust us again.

"A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter." - Proverbs 11:13 (NKJV)

Scripture draws a sharp line between two kinds of people. The faithful spirit conceals a brother's matter; the talebearer reveals it. When a prayer request shared in confidence travels around the whole village by evening, we have not carried a burden - we have carried news. And a church where requests turn into gossip is a church where people learn to keep silent, and silence, as David told us, dries the bones. So we repented of the words we have passed on that were given to us in trust, and we asked God to make this fellowship a place where it is safe to be weak. A confessing people can only exist where they are also a protecting people.

3. Liberty for the Bound (நம் மக்களுக்காக)

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me... He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." - Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV)

"கர்த்தராகிய தேவனுடைய ஆவியானவர் என்மேல் இருக்கிறார்; சிறுமைப்பட்டவர்களுக்குச் சுவிசேஷத்தை அறிவிக்கக் கர்த்தர் என்னை அபிஷேகம்பண்ணினார்; இருதயம் நொறுங்குண்டவர்களுக்குக் காயங்கட்டுதலையும், சிறைப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு விடுதலையையும், கட்டுண்டவர்களுக்குக் கட்டவிழ்த்தலையும் கூறவும்," - ஏசாயா 61:1 (TAOVBSI)

Every family among us knows someone who is bound - to drink, to a habit that will not let go, to anger, to debt. Listen to how the Bible names them. It does not call them disgraces. It calls them captives - கட்டுண்டவர்கள். That single word changes everything, because a captive is not someone to be ashamed of and hidden away; a captive is someone to be rescued. Captivity calls for liberty, not for covering up. And this is exactly the work Jesus announced as His own: to untie those who are bound - கட்டவிழ்த்தல்.

So our third prayer turned outward. We brought to God, by name, the people we love who are in chains, and we proclaimed the freedom of Isaiah 61 over each one. We do not whisper about them. We war for them.

From Hiding to Songs of Deliverance (மறைவிடத்திலிருந்து இரட்சணியப் பாடல்களுக்கு)

"You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah" - Psalm 32:7 (NKJV)

This is where honesty leads. The same David whose bones dried up while he hid his sin found, on the other side of confession, a new place to hide - God Himself. We stop hiding from God and we begin to hide in God. The drought of the covered-up life is exchanged for songs of deliverance. That is the whole movement of the four Sundays ahead, and it starts here, on a Saturday, with people who decided to stop keeping silent.

Father, search me and know my heart. I will not hide from You any longer. Make our church a safe place to carry one another's burdens, and set free everyone we love who is bound. Be my hiding place, and surround me with songs of deliverance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
