Finance God's Way

Proverbs 3:9-10; Matthew 6:33

In April 2023, Good Samaritan Mission hosted a special conference on biblical financial stewardship, led by Bro. Senthil from Compass Financial Ministries. This was a defining moment for our church — learning to apply God's Word to one of the most practical areas of daily life.

Honoring God First

"Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing." — Proverbs 3:9-10

The Bible is not silent about money. In fact, Jesus spoke more about money and possessions than almost any other topic. Why? Because where our treasure is, there our heart is also (Matthew 6:21).

Financial stewardship begins with a fundamental truth: everything belongs to God. We are managers, not owners. This changes how we earn, spend, save, and give.

Seeking the Kingdom First

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33

Many believers struggle with anxiety about provision. The world teaches us to hoard, to worry, to compare. But Jesus calls us to a radically different way — seek His kingdom first, and trust Him with the rest.

This does not mean being careless with money. It means being intentional — budgeting wisely, avoiding unnecessary debt, saving for the future, and being generous with what God provides.

Principles We Learned

Through this conference, our church community was equipped with practical principles:

  • God owns everything — we are stewards, not owners
  • Avoid debt — the borrower is servant to the lender (Proverbs 22:7)
  • Save wisely — the ant stores in summer for winter (Proverbs 6:6-8)
  • Give generously — God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7)
  • Be content — godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6)

Application

How we handle money reveals what we truly believe about God. If we trust Him, we can give generously. If we believe He provides, we can save without hoarding. If we know He is our security, we can live free from financial anxiety.

This is finance God's way — not a prosperity gospel, but a life of faithful stewardship that honors God and blesses others.
