Overview of the Bible: Seeing the Big Picture
On April 26, 2025, Good Samaritan Mission hosted a special seminar by Rev. Samuel Abraham — an overview of the entire Bible. For many in our congregation, this was the first time they saw how every book of the Bible connects into one grand story of God's redemption.
Why an Overview Matters
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." — 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Many believers read the Bible in fragments — a verse here, a chapter there. While every part of Scripture is valuable, understanding the big picture transforms how we read each individual passage. When we see the thread that runs from Genesis to Revelation, every story finds its place in God's unfolding plan.
The Grand Narrative
The Bible is one story told across 66 books, written by over 40 authors across 1,500 years. Yet it tells one unified narrative:
- Creation — God creates a good world and places humanity in relationship with Himself
- Fall — Sin enters and breaks everything — our relationship with God, each other, and creation
- Redemption — God initiates a rescue plan through Israel, the prophets, and ultimately through Jesus Christ
- Restoration — God will make all things new — a new heaven and new earth where He dwells with His people forever
Every book, every character, every event points to Jesus — the center of all Scripture.
The Word is Living
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." — Hebrews 4:12
The Bible is not an ancient relic. It is a living word that speaks to every generation, every culture, every situation. When we approach it as the living Word of God, it transforms us from the inside out.
Application
This seminar challenged us to read the Bible not as disconnected stories, but as one continuous revelation of who God is and what He has done for us. Whether you are new to Scripture or have read it for decades, seeing the big picture renews your understanding and deepens your faith.
We encourage every member to commit to reading through the Bible systematically — not as a duty, but as a journey into knowing God more deeply.
