Introduction (அறிமுகம்)

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." — Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)

"கர்த்தரின் நாமம் பலத்த துருகம்; நீதிமான் அதற்குள் ஓடிச் சுகமாயிருப்பான்." — நீதிமொழிகள் 18:10 (TAOVBSI)

A name is more than just a label. In biblical times, names were deeply meaningful -- they described a person's character, purpose, or a prophetic truth about their life. Jacob means "deceiver" but was renamed Israel, "one who wrestles with God." Jesus means "the Lord saves."

Why Does God Have Many Names?

Because no one name can contain Him. When Moses asked God, "What is Your name?" God answered:

"I AM WHO I AM." — Exodus 3:14 (NKJV)

"இருக்கிறவராக இருக்கிறேன்." — யாத்திராகமம் 3:14 (TAOVBSI)

God's essence cannot be captured in a single word. Instead, He reveals Himself through many names to show us different facets of His nature. When we are lost, He is Shepherd. When we are broken, He is Healer. When we are afraid, He is Peace. When we are weak, He is Almighty.

God's Names Reveal His Character

Each name of God is a revelation of His nature:

  • Yahweh (I AM) -- Self-existent, unchanging, covenant-keeping God (Exodus 3:14)
  • El Shaddai (God Almighty) -- All-powerful protector and nourisher (Genesis 17:1)
  • El Elyon (The Most High God) -- Sovereign over all the earth (Genesis 14:18-20)
  • El Roi (The God Who Sees) -- A God who sees and cares for the overlooked (Genesis 16:13)
  • Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide) -- Provider of our needs (Genesis 22:14)
  • Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Is My Banner) -- Our protector and victory in battle (Exodus 17:15)
  • Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Who Heals) -- Healer of body, mind, and soul (Exodus 15:26)
  • Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace) -- The One who brings inner and outer peace (Judges 6:24)
  • Jehovah Raah (The Lord Is My Shepherd) -- Caring guide and faithful provider (Psalm 23:1)
  • Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness) -- Our righteousness before God (Jeremiah 23:6)
  • Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There) -- His constant presence with us (Ezekiel 48:35)
  • Abba (Father) -- A loving and intimate Father (Romans 8:15)
  • Immanuel (God With Us) -- God present in our midst (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23)

If you are in lack, run to Jehovah Jireh. If you feel weak, lean on El Shaddai. If you are afraid, call on Jehovah Shalom.

God Wants Us to Know Him Deeply

"Let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me." — Jeremiah 9:24 (NKJV)

"மேன்மைபாராட்டுகிறவன் பூமியிலே கிருபையையும், நியாயத்தையும் நீதியையும் செய்கிற கர்த்தர் நான் என்று என்னை அறிந்து உணர்ந்திருக்கிறதைக்குறித்தே மேன்மைபாராட்டக்கடவன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்." — எரேமியா 9:24 (TAOVBSI)

God wrote a book of remembrance for those who "meditated on His name" (Malachi 3:16). God delights in those who think about, talk about, and trust in His name.

His Name Is a Place of Safety and Power

In a storm, a strong tower is a place of refuge. When battles rage, you do not fight alone -- you run into the name of God.

  • In fear, call on Jehovah Shalom and receive peace.
  • In sickness, call on Jehovah Rapha and find healing.
  • In confusion, call on El Elyon and rest in His sovereignty.

Application (செயல்படுத்துதல்)

  • Are you running to the name of God when trouble comes -- or to other things like money, people, or distractions?
  • Which name of God do you need to hold on to today?
  • This week, meditate on one name of God each day. Let His name become your refuge and your strength.
